Deviants Eternals: Comparison between Comics and Movies

With the release of Eternals, the MCU is poised to enter a fresh new realm of Marvel mythology. This new film will reveal the remainder of Thanos’ comic-book race, immortal beings that have lived among humanity since its beginnings and inspired many of mythology’s heroes and tales. 1. Deviants in Comics

The name Deviants is the name given to all species that are formed from the genetic experimentation of another species. Similar to how Deviants were created by Ziran on earth. A good example is the Skrulls in the MCU. Because the mutation has made the Deviants unstable, each member of the family will have their own abilities. But in terms of appearance, they are all “ugly” equally.

The Deviants’ purpose was created to make sketches to help the Celestials create stronger Eternals. But the power of the Deviants is not inferior to the Eternals.

Deviants also possess the ability to evolve extremely quickly, much more than the other two races. Although the members’ strengths are not the same, the superpowers of the Deviants depend on genetics. They have super-strength on each level, most known for their ability to shapeshift, heal themselves, transform matter, and telepathically.

Due to their similar strength to the Eternals but uglier, the Deviants were blacklisted by the Celestials and gave preference to the Eternals. Not accepting with a feeling of abandonment, the Deviants swore to take revenge on the Celestials, thereby leading to hatred and hatred between the two races. In the “Eternals” mini-series written by Neil Gaiman, the Deviants’ purpose in existence was changed to fit the contemporary Marvel storyline.

In the stories, Deviants are called shapeshifters, the Celestials who created this race to come to earth to later serve as food for the creator. 2. Deviants in Eternals of MCU

The origin of the Deviants Eternals is very different from the Comics version. They are genetically modified organics. Deviants were sent to earth by Celestial Arishem to wipe out predatory creatures from the earth’s surface, allowing humans to form and give birth to a new Celestial.

For a long time, the Deviants have fulfilled their mission of slaughtering carnivores, including the extinction of the dinosaurs. But the Deviants, thanks to their ability to transform, begin to resist Arishem’s control and take over both the form and the predatory instincts of their slain prey to become the number one predator on earth. Since then they have devastated and wiped out all life in the world that they were supposed to protect.

Having lost control of the Deviants, Arishem created the Eternals with members of this race created by mechanical processes instead of natural organic like Deviants.

When the Eternals appeared in 5000 BC, groups of Deviants on the surface of the earth began to be hunted and destroyed. Some of the remaining groups were trapped in the ice for centuries.

It wasn’t until 2023, when “The Blip” happened, that this event brought back those affected by Thanos’ snap. Thereby enough energy to summon the appearance of Celestial Tiamut. Compared to the Deviants in Comics, Deviants Eternals species possesses slimy skin, has countless tentacles, and has many eyes. A trait worthy of the title “transformer”, Deviants in the MCU have the ability to take the form of any animal they have killed. This allows some members to have unique shapes such as growing wings, claws, or horns.

Deviants Marvel Powers are the ability to communicate with each other, live in groups, and work in groups, they also have the ability to plan battles, and wait for the opportunity to ambush. They have a clear hierarchy as Kro acts as the leader of the clan.

As one of the main antagonists of the film, Kro has a superior ability due to absorbing the power of two Eternals members after killing them, Kro undergoes a process of change in both form and mind. Kro also collected the memories of the lost Eternals members, thereby gaining feelings of hatred towards the Eternals for joining the Celestials in the cycle of destruction against their own kind.

But after being defeated at the hands of Thena (Angelina Jolie), the Deviants Eternals were officially extinct.
