June 1, 2023

The anticipation in the global Pokémon community for the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus is growing steadily, and fans of Pokémon GO are eagerly awaiting information about the probable promo event. First, however, it’s back to the roots – to Kanto. The Power Plant event has the key to the final mechanism of the mysterious door, which is the focus of all efforts in the course of the Season of Heritage.

Finally, players may learn what’s behind it: is it Arceus itself? Is it a lost Hisuian Pokémon? The Galarian variants of the legendary Kanto birds? There’s a lot of guesswork going on in the community. What else is on offer in Pokémon GO in the week from Jan. 17 to 23, 2022? You can read all about it here in the weekly preview.
Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time

The Spotlight Hours in January 2022 continue unabated. The two upcoming events revolve around the colorful Power Rangers versions of Pikachu – Plusle and Minun. The red electric mouse kicks things off this week with an increased spawn rate on Tuesday evening. As a bonus, double catch candies await you – if you don’t need them for Plusle, save up useful Field Research tasks and work through these encounters instead with the active bonus.

Kanto Power Plant event
Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at 10 a.m. until Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at 10 a.m. local time

Niantic is taking its time with releasing information on the Kanto Power Plant event so far – here’s everything that’s known: The focus is on Pokémon of the Electric and Steel types, consequently, expect monsters like Magnemite and Voltorb (which, conveniently, has a Hisuian variant… just saying). In addition, Team GO Rocket will probably plan shenanigans, so it could be that you once again have to defeat troublemakers Giovanni, Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra. We’ll will inform you here as soon as the event details are available.

Raid Hour: Shock Genesect
Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time

Shock Genesect is currently available to capture for the first time in the Level 5 Raids of Pokémon GO. The Raid Hour on Wednesday evening lets the alien appear at all gyms, so you can melt down the construct en masse in large groups. Unfortunately, no Shiny version can be found in the process. The consolation: Genesect is fairly easy to defeat, and each raid of this level gives you 10,000 experience points (XP) – a good opportunity to advance in the currently ongoing XP Challenge.

Community Day Classic: Bulbasaur
Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time

The icon from Kanto, the first pocket monster in the Pokédex, the one true poisonous plant frog dinosaur – really, what is Bulbasaur anyway? The Community Day Classic offers all the powerful bonuses you’ve come to expect from regular events of this kind: Triple Catch XP, a Special Research, and a special attack for the species’ final evolutionary stage – all reduced down to three nice hours of cute little Bulbasaur showing up at an increased spawn rate. What more could you ask for?
