Colorado take the Cup in historic season
Colorado had a chance to lift the cup in front of their home fans in Game 5, but the Tampa Bay Lightening survived to force another game in Florida.
The Avs won 56 games in regular season, and finish the playoffs with a record 72 total wins. They curised through the Western Conference and earned the right to take on the two time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightening.

The night started off well for Tampa in front of their home fans. Steven Stamkos gave the Lightening an early lead less than four minutes into the game, but the Avs bounced back in the second period.
Makar named Conn Smythe winner
A quick goal from their heart and soul of the team Nathan McKinnon just two minutes into the period evened things up at a goal a piece. Then Arrturi Lehkonen put the Avs up 2-1 midway through the period.
Colorado’s back bone was their high powered offense, scoring almost at will throughout these playoffs, but it was the defense and goaltender Darcy Kuemper showed up and secured the Cup for Colorado. The goaltender who was questioned by many, and thought to be the weak link of this Avs team can up with 20 saves in the close out game.
It’s only the third time the Avalanche have been crowned kings of the Cup and the first time since 2001 when Patrick Roy and Ray Borque won it all.
Cale Makar was named the Conn Smythe Trophy after scoring 8 goals a registering 21 assists in not just an incredible finals, but an incredible post season.
