A rare first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone which has JK Rowling’s name spelt wrong has sold for £22,000.
The proof copy went up for auction to mark 20 years since the first young wizard film was released.
But on the title page of the book it has ‘J.A. Rowling’ following a mistake when it was printed.

It was expected to sell for around £8,000 but it went for nearly triple the guide price.
The listing for auctioneers Ewbanks, in Woking, Surrey, read: ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Bloomsbury, 1997, by J.K. Rowling.
‘Uncorrected proof copy of the first edition book in original white and yellow wrappers.

‘One of approximately 200 copies produced, includes error to title page ‘J.A Rowling’,

‘In very fine condition, only very light handling and a small crease down the spine. All pages are clean and present.’

JK Rowling penned the seven Harry Potter books over a decade between 1997 and 2007 and they were all turned into blockbuster films and many harry potter christmas sweater.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone movie hit cinemas in November 2001 after the novel came out in 1997.

The highest price ever paid for the book was £145,000 by American businessman Jeremy Padawer in March for a rare first edition.

He told The Rowling Library earlier this year: ‘I did not set out to own the best conditioned first edition hardback Harry Potter book I’ve ever seen on the market.’
He went on: ‘My objective wasn’t to own that book. But, when I came across it, I couldn’t deny how much it meant to me, how rare it was, and my emotional and transactional self jumped in whole-heartedly.

‘$193,000 is a lot of money. I do not take it lightly. I do believe we all should embrace our passions and diversify our investment portfolio. This did both for me.’
