Related Articles: Super Mario Galaxy first released on the Wii November 1st, 2007. It was Nintendo’s big holiday title for the Wii’s second anniversary, and the first mainline Mario game to hit shelves since Sunshine released on the GameCube in the Summer of 2002. In that five year gap of time, many fans wondered what direction Nintendo would take their favorite mustachioed plumber, though I think it’s safe to say no one expected the masterpiece that was (and still is) Galaxy. With its dazzling art direction, graphical fidelity, clever gravity-based platforming, and fully orchestrated music, Super Mario Galaxy launched the Mario franchise to new heights and proved that the Wii had more to offer than sports and party games. This cosmic game was so popular and beloved that Nintendo even re-released it as part of 2020’s Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection to celebrate the franchise’s 35th anniversary, but to the chagrin of fans, one 3D Mario game was notably missing from the collection – 2010’s Super Mario Galaxy 2.

  1. Development and testing of the tool goes all the way back to 2016, and it turns out that a GDC talk from 2017 featured what appears to be an early version of the tool, as highlighted by developers at King (makers of Candy Crush and part of Activision Blizzard since being acquired in 2016) — and both Super Mario and the Zelda series went under King’s diversity microscope. The talk (see below), which recently resurfaced after @UltimaShadowX highlighted it again on Twitter, discussed how to successfully implement diverse characters and better representation in games whilst avoiding stereotypes, showcasing an approach that would eventually evolve into the derided Diversity Space Tool. As part of the discussion, the character diversity from popular IPs was discussed, with both Super Mario Run, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess included in the talk due for release next year, followed up several months later when former Kotaku writer Kevin Schmoeski tweeted about using this technique over emailing her boss Phil Spencer asking if she could make him something cool like Donkey Kong Country Returns; while some fans noted similarities between its design and those used in other genres such “Zelda + Batman” or even Marvel Comics’ Ultimates Universe.[4] *note note : In light now of his recent comments, Chris Chibnall pointed us towards another comparison he made linking various media franchises together during our own analysis yesterday [5], noting there were many similar comparisons but mostly focusing primarily around superhero
  2. Amidst an ongoing flurry of rumors and speculation about which game will get DLC or whether a sequel is in the works, one of Nintendo’s latest entries into its flagship franchise for the Switch is still being left in the dark: Super Mario Odyssey. Despite being one of the core games behind the Switch’s initial exponential success and critically acclaimed at the time, Super Mario Odyssey has not been treated as favorably as its fellow Switch titles. Those that came out in tandem with Super Mario Odyssey to those who came out much later, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Pokemon Sword and Shield, and even games within Mario’s own franchise like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe seem to be getting better treatment.5 years on from Super Mario Odyssey’s official release, there is still no news so far for another Odyssey with Mario and Cappy. It is still as strange as ever that Nintendo never revisited the world Odyssey created and expanded on an already clearly successful formula. Maybe the reasons for Odyssey not receiving extra content are more complicated than fans think, and there’s more to the story than meets the eye.
  3. In Mario Strikers: Battle League, players can purchase gear that, when equipped, changes a character’s stats. This allows players to create character builds that suit their team’s specific needs. The game has five stat categories. The strength stat improves characters’ tackling capabilities and their resistance to opponents’ tackles. Shooting improves the power and speed of shots, while passing improves the speed of passes. The speed stat improves a character’s run speed, and technique improves shot accuracy, curve, and dribbling skills, making perfect moves and hyper strikes easier to perform. There are several character archetypes that can be made with the new gear system. Here are some of the best to use in the upcoming Nintendo online ranked season.

Quite a few Super Mario spinoffs are doing well right now, even as Mario Kart leaves fans hanging. Mario Party continues to thrive and grow, and Nintendo has started revisiting a few classic sports-themed Mario franchises. It’s possible that these revivals and Mario Kart 9’s absence are connected. Nintendo may intentionally be devoting resources to other Super Mario games, rather than prioritizing Mario Kart, as a means of expanding Super Mario’s brand on the Switch. Although holding off on Mario Kart 9 means Nintendo is missing an opportunity to capitalize on demand, there’s something to be said for focusing on a variety of Mario titles. Let’s take a look at 10 others we think would work perfectly on Wii U… Sonic Mania: One of those things where two different worlds come together in surprising ways! Sonic Team celebrates its 30th anniversary with some very cool new items available through each year — from starships to mini versions; but this season alone they added three costumes including their first female wrestler who was called “The Princess”. What better time or place could one celebrate such milestones? With just about every stage filled out so far by great developers having worked hard (I don’t know anyone without any connections), it seems inevitable everyone will create another exciting title next year
