Godzilla is headed to Apple TV+ in the MonsterVerse’s first live-action series
Legendary Pictures has been trying to make MonsterVerse a thing for a while, and after Godzilla and King Kong returned to cinemas in 2014, kaiju is now heading to the small screen in an upcoming series on Apple TV+.
More than simply an introduction to the King of Monsters Rug, the still-untitled show set in the wake of the battle between Godzilla and other Titans reveals new information linking monster attacks to a nest. secret organization called Monarch. In case you haven’t been keeping up with MonsterVerse, Monarch has appeared in a number of recent Godzilla and King Kong movies since 2014’s Godzilla, with Monarch often acting as the multinational organization overseeing the research and tracking. MUTOs (giant unidentified terrestrial creatures).
While both Apple and Legendary have yet to provide a cast list or release date for their upcoming Godzilla series, the show will be hosted by hosts Chris Black (Outcast, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Matt. Fraction, who is known for writing about Marvel’s Hawkeye comics in 2012. The big deal for kaiju lovers, however, is that the upcoming Godzilla show on Apple TV+ will be the first live-action series. The first is set in MonsterVerse and is only the second TV show after the upcoming Skull Island anime on Netflix.
For now, it’s unclear how the new Apple TV+ series will blend in with the existing MonsterVerse movies – specifically, Godzilla vs. Kong last year saw the big green dinosaur team up with King Kong to battle a host of enemies both ancient and modern. And although 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters is sometimes seen as a disappointment due to its average ticket sales, Godzilla vs. Kong still manages to be one of the top 10 box office performers of 2021 in the midst of a pandemic, which seems like a welcome sign that Godzilla is about to make the move to the small screen.
