The Power of the Dog has been nominated for multiple awards at the 94th Academy Awards, but one that many fans are most eager to see announced is the Best Actor category.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has earned critical acclaim for his performance as Phil Burbank in the film but he does face stiff competition from Javier Barden for Being the Ricardos, Will Smith in King Richard, Andrew Garfield in Tick, Tick…Boom! and Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth.

Cumberbatch was previously nominated for Best Actor for his performance in The Imitation Game where he played Alan Turing. He has been heavily favored for this year’s Oscars race, although there is a good chance Smith will beat him for the award.

Did Benedict Cumberbatch win the Oscar for The Power of the Dog?
Cumberbatch did not win the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Phil Burbank. Instead, the award went to Will Smith for his portrayal of Richard Williams in the movie King Richard.

This was the actor’s second nomination, as mentioned above. You can watch his performance in both movies right now on Netflix, as The Imitation Game recently started streaming on the service. I’m sure the talented actor will get another chance at winning an Academy Award in the future, but it’s unfortunate that he did not win this year.

However, Cumberbatch did pick up a few awards for his performance from the Alliance of Women Film Journalists, Houston Film Critics Society, New York Film Critics and the San Francisco Bay Area Film Critics Circle.

Apart from Cumberbatch’s loss, the movie lost almost all of its other nominations, only picking up one for Best Director.

Are you disappointed that Cumberbatch did not win the Best Actor award? Why or why not? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
